Meeting the brief

I think that I have met the brief for the Final Major Project. I have created 3 posters that shows my practical skills, sophisticated research, vision, Knowledge and process. I think that my Fmp has showcased the skills, creativity and understanding I have developed over the past 2 years. Since the start of the Fmp I knew I wanted to create a set of posters this is because I really enjoyed the year 1 Fmp which I did a set of posters around the theme of travel.

I think that during this project I have met the standard of success that I have set myself. I have created a set of posters that have Improved throughout the project. I set myself the goal of improving the work I did for my year 1 Fmp I feel like I completed this goal. My standard of success was to create a set of posters that I feel has improved on my previous work whilst getting a good grade and creating these posters to have a purpose. I feel that I have met all of the criteria for my success standard to a high level.

Effect

I think that the editing I did for my posters was very effective for each poster. The effects that I did fit with the style of my poster which was calm but when you think about the poster it has a strong message. If I was to create these posters again I would do a more advanced effect I think this would look a lot more advanced whilst also still keeping the message.

For my poster 1 effect I really enjoy the Link between the message and the footsteps on the poster I think that this works very well to add some visuals to my poster without overwhelming the poster.

Poster 2 had the image of the person and the speech bubble with objects that cause and improve mental health I think that this worked well with each other because people could be experiencing some of the problems that I have represented on this poster therefore they might realise that they need help. I think that this engages with the audience more with the purpose of my posters.

For poster 3 I created a jar of problems in Illustrator and photoshop I think that this is a very visual poster because it shows the problems that a lot of people face in society. I think these images enhance the message for this poster.

Research

My research process was to research into 5 different areas I started my research by looking at some famous graphic designers work and evaluating these posters. I really enjoyed looking at these designers because it inspired me with the designs and the messages of there work. I then did action research which I experimented with different cameras and software this gave me experience in these new programs and equipment which will help me with future projects. After doing my action research I researched into Visual effects, this is the area of my research when I practiced and evaluated effects that I could have used for my posters. The next area I researched was colour theory. Whilst looking into colour theory I read and analysed many articles this improved my knowledge into different combinations of colours and the reasoning behind them I used this research in to make my final designs more atheistic and professional. My final area of research was mental health charity posters this research was vital to my final posters because this gave me the inspiration on the message of my posters and the final designs.

My research was very effective because I used all areas of my research in my production. I used my graphic design research when thinking of my initial ideas and also when I chose my fonts. My action research was useful when I was using my phone instead of a camera this was essential because I could quickly adapt to timings without needing to book cameras. The research I did on visual effects was useful when I created my first draft of my posters I then got feedback which furthered poster ideas. Colour theory was a very useful part of my research this helped me decide one what colours to use for my posters. My research on mental health charity posters was very helpful in leading me to an idea that had a clear purpose which helped me gain motivation for the posters I created.

To improve my research next time I would spend more time researching into how to create a professional poster. This would improve my final product and would improve the quality of my research. Another area I would want to develop more is researching into mental health charities I think that this would give me more inspiration and motivation with the design and purpose of all my posters.

The effectiveness of my workflow

I think that my workflow for this project was very effective. I created many plans during the Fmp these helped me decide what I need to do each week I also amended these plans regularly and evaluated why each time. My main plan to finish on time was to create a Fmp Journal This is where I did a daily plan for each lesson and after each lesson I evaluated what I did in that day. This worked very well and helped me through the process of the Fmp smoothly.

I would change my workflow by doing more Gibbs reflective cycle For the past few weeks I have aimed to do one every Monday however I have been busy trying to complete all my work before the deadline. I think doing a Gibbs reflective cycle each week is a good way to evaluate the work you have done and try to think of things you can work on. I would have also liked to manage my time on production better I think I should have spent less time doing my rough drafts and more time evaluating and changing my final designs.

Scope of the project

Throughout this project I have felt very challenged at times I struggled with the writing throughout this project especially when doing the proposal. I think that I found these areas hard because I find them less exciting then the practical work. I feel that I could have stretched myself a lot more during post production the reason I didn't was because of time restrictions. If I was to do this project again I would challenge myself more by creating a more challenging final designs the way I would do this is by researching more into mental health posters and adding visual effects to my posters.

Management

My time during this project was very well managed however I feel that I could have improved my time management by leaving more time for feedback this is something I did take into account but in future I will need to think about the amount of time I will need to respond to this feedback.

I think that my final posters would have impacted both well and not well with my time management. I feel that I could have created more challenging and aesthetic posters. The reason that my time management improved my posters is because I have finished all areas of this project by the deadline. I also think that my time management could have made my posters worse, I think this because whilst crating my plans I didn't expect to have to adapt to feedback as much as I had to therefore I was very behind my plan at one stage in the project however my time management did mean that I caught up to my plan.

Autonomous Learning

During this project I have been very self dependent I think that I have worked very well with being independent during all stages of the Fmp. Throughout the Fmp I have been given help in the form of feedback this has helped me improve my project however out of all the areas I got feedback in I had the least amount for research I think that this shows how successful I was at being independent.

Throughout the Fmp I was learning a lot about different media areas but an area I didn't expect to learn a lot about was myself however I was proved wrong. During this project I have learnt that I can be very productive when I have goals. I learnt this by having plans each day this gave me motivation to finish all the work that I needed to. I have also learnt in this project to trust the power of failure, I used this whenever I got feedback that I needed to improve in a area I then worked on the area and even when I didn't succeed I learnt from these mistakes.

I need to improve on my productivity. During this project I did a lot of procrastinating this often was due to slow processing this is where I cant process any information for a period of time. This often made me frustrated which I need to improve and try and handle this issue. The way I would do this, is by having breaks in between a lot of constant work this would allow me to think about the work I am doing whilst relaxing and processing information.

I was tested in this project when I was doing the presentation I found this very hard because I am not very good at public speaking. I found that it was easier because I wasn't doing it in front of the whole class and I think that throughout the project my presentations got a lot better. This shows my perseverance when I find something hard.

I overcame a lot of issues by writing the issue in my problem solving page and trying to think of solutions to overcome my problem. An example of this is when I had feedback and I decided that my posters didn't have a purpose, the solution I had for this was to change my ideas and do some more research on posters that have a similar theme.

Ideas

Throughout this project my idea has developed a lot at the beginning of this project I came up with 5 initial ideas I then analysed these ideas and came up with a top 3, after coming up with a top 3 I evaluated each idea and ordered these ideas and decided to focus on my top idea. The first thing I did whilst researching was write down my initial ideas for each separate poster the purpose of this was to try and develop these ideas and at the end of my research have better, more stable ideas. Whilst doing post production I made a draft of one of my ideas this draft I got feedback on and decided that I needed to change my idea. This is where I came up with poster ideas and made drafts for my presentation. After complementing my presentation I started to produce my ideas. Throughout post production I developed my ideas with a lot of self evaluation this ended with my final designs.

Decision making

In every part of the Fmp I have had to make informed and key decisions I made a lot of tough decisions by writing the options down and evaluating each choice I could make, this helped me come to quick and effective conclusions.

Throughout the Fmp I have changed my mind on a lot of topics these included my ideas, research and post production. I think that changing my mind has helped my project become stronger. The main area that I changed my mind was with my ideas this was due to a combination of feedback and self reflection which ended in a new and more developed idea.

The main thing that effected the decisions I made was the mark scheme this is something I look at a lot when trying to come up with ideas and trying to decide on different outcomes. The mark scheme has helped me a lot on tough decisions.

I think that many of the decisions I made were Correct however there are a few that I would amend what I decided. I think the good decisions were the main decisions on ideas and post production however I feel my decisions on planning could have been improved by thinking about how necessary the work will be to creating my final posters. A decision I made that I think was right was to take screenshots of my work and write about how it had progressed I think that this was very helpful in developing my ideas and giving myself thing to work on.

Pride

I am very happy with the work I have done for this project overall the main area I am very proud of is my Fmp research I think that this is very extensive research where I went into a lot of detail on important areas to develop my Fmp. I feel like in a few areas I could improve with a lot more time however I wont be able to solve these issues because It would take weeks to get to the level I would like.

With my work now I will use the qualifications to go to university. I will also be able to use the Fmp if I need to give evidence on work I have done at a job interview or if needed at a different time.

Skills

During this project I have gained a lot of soft skills these include time management and problem solving. I have developed these skills throughout my project. The way I developed my time management was by creating my Fmp journal and evaluating each lesson. I have also gained skills in problem solving I developed this skill by doing my problem solving page this helped me keep track of the development of my ideas.

I have gained a lot of hard skills. The main hard skill I have learnt was InDesign I did this when I was researching into different programs to use for my posters. However I did not use this in my final designs. I have also gained hard skills in photoshop whilst in post production and research I have practiced and learnt a lot of effects.

Future

The next stage for me is to use the qualifications I get from this course to get into university. If I don't get into Uni I will apply for a Job this course will also give me the qualifications needed to get a job.

This project has altered what I want to do in the future because I now know that I want to do something to do with graphic design in the future however I still would like to practice the other skills I have learnt during this project.

If I had more time

If I had 2 weeks more in this project I would spend that time improving my production and my proposal however I think with the time I have scheduled I have done the best possible work that I could do. For my production I would research and add more advanced graphics and effects. For my proposal I would add more detail to each segment to enhance the points I was trying to make.
